White shiny scaly crystal or white crystalline powder. The melting point is 137-138°C, and the refractive index is 1.571. Hardly soluble in water, slightly soluble in ether, slightly soluble in boiling water, soluble in ethanol and chloroform. It does not show color when it is dissolved in concentrated sulfuric acid, and becomes orange-yellow after dropping nitric acid into the solution. Odorless, slightly bitter taste.
