Application:Bisbenzimide H 33258 Fluorochrome, Trihydrochloride (CAS:23491-45-4) is a membrane-permeable, adenine-thymine-specific fluorescent stain, that is useful for staining DNA, chromosomes, and nuclei. This product has been shown to bind to the minor groove in DNA and can be used to detect mycoplasma contamination in tissue culture, to indicate early onset of apoptosis, and to sort living cells based on DNA content. H 33258 and the related compound H 33342 (sc-200908) have been used in conjunction with RNA aptamers in the 5′ untranslated region (UTR) to control expression of transfected gene constructs, and both have been shown to affect the rate of channel-mediated Ca2+ efflux from junctional cytoplasmic reticulum vesicles; interestingly H 33258 increases eflux while H 33342 (sc-200908) decreases it.
