⚡ Proton conductivity

The cast film conducts protons at fuel-cell operating temperatures. Typical conductivity is around 0.1 S/cm at 80 °C and full humidification.

⚗️ Solid acid catalysis

In the H+ form, the resin behaves as a heterogeneous superacid. Used in esterification, alkylation, and isomerization where liquid acids are hard to recover.

🛡️ Chemical stability

The C–F backbone resists oxidation and hydrolysis. It does not degrade in the presence of peroxide radicals, which is why it is the standard membrane material in PEM cells.

🔋 PEM fuel cell membranes

Challenge: Fuel cell membranes must maintain high proton conductivity while resisting oxidative degradation over thousands of hours.

Solution: Nafion PFSA dispersion forms a chemically stable proton exchange membrane with uniform ionic channels. Cast at 60–80 °C, then anneal at 120–140 °C.

⚗️ Solid superacid catalysis

Challenge: Liquid acids like H₂SO₄ are corrosive, require neutralization, and are difficult to separate from reaction products.

Solution: Acid-form Nafion acts as a heterogeneous solid superacid catalyst. It enables esterification, alkylation, and isomerization with easy recovery by filtration.

💧 Water electrolysis

Challenge: Hydrogen production via PEM electrolysis requires a membrane with high proton conductivity and extremely low gas crossover to prevent explosive mixing.

Solution: Nafion membranes provide the required conductivity and mechanical strength, enabling efficient hydrogen production with high purity.

🔬 Electrochemical sensors

A thin Nafion film on a glassy carbon or platinum electrode blocks anions and neutral interferents while letting the analyte through. Common in glucose biosensors and dopamine detection.

Yes. Cast on a flat substrate at 60–80 °C, then anneal at 120–140 °C. Film thickness depends on wet coating thickness and solids content. Tell us your target thickness and we will share starting parameters.

Dry the dispersion, then soak the film in 1 M HNO₃ or H₂SO₄ for 1–2 hours, rinse with DI water, and dry again. We supply the Na+ or H+ form depending on your preference.

12 months at 2–8 °C in the sealed bottle. Keep it away from light. If you see gel particles or a color shift, do not use it.
