The product is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It is used to prepare the antifungal drug tribromo-phenyl hexanoate and is also used as liquid crystal intermediate.
It is produced by the reaction of ethanol with sulfoxide chloride. Sulfoxide chloride was mixed with n-caproic acid at 50-70℃ for 4h at 70-90℃. Distillation, collection of 147-160℃ fractions, to obtain caproyl chloride.
It is used as acylating agent in organic synthesis
