Relative density: 0.9337
Curing point: -40°C
Refractive index: 1.4831
Flammability: Flammable. The general industrial product is a mixture of three isomers. α-Terpineol has three optical isomers: levorotatory, dextrorotatory, and racemic. (+)-α-body exists in essential oils such as turpentine oil, cardamom oil, sweet orange oil, nutmeg oil; (-)-α-body exists in essential oils such as pine needle oil, cinnamon leaf oil, lemon oil, and white lemon oil Medium; (±)-α-body exists in essential oils such as geraniol and eucalyptus oil; γ-body has been found in Tibet cypress leaf oil. Terpineol is a colorless thick liquid. Distillation range 214~224℃ (101.3kPa). Insoluble in water, soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol. It has a delicate fragrance like Pittosporum, sweet lilac and lily of the valley fragrance. Soluble in ethanol, slightly soluble in water and glycerin. 1 part of terpineol can be dissolved in 2 parts (volume) of 70% ethanol solution.
Preparation: Using turpentine oil as raw material, adding a small amount of flat addition to sulfuric acid as an emulsifier, and carrying out hydration reaction at room temperature to make the main component pinene in turpentine oil produce hydrated terpene diol, which is dehydrated to obtain crude terpineol, which is obtained by fractional distillation.
